Percent off calculator: sale price and savings

Type the original price and the discount. You get the price you pay and the amount you save, rounded to the cent.

SALE PRICE

$80.00

20% off $100.00: you save $20.00 and pay $80.00

How to take a percentage off a price

Multiply the price by the discount divided by 100 to get the savings, then subtract that from the price. A 20% discount on $100 saves $20.00 and leaves $80.00. A shortcut is to multiply by 1 minus the discount, so 20% off is the same as paying 80% of the price.

Common discounts at a glance

On a $100 item, 10% off is $90.00, 25% off is $75.00 and 50% off is $50.00. Open one of the example pages below for a worked answer with sales tax and a second discount.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the sale price?

Subtract price x percent / 100 from the price. 30% off $50 is $50 - $15 = $35.00.

Does a 20% off then 10% off equal 30% off?

No. The second discount applies to the reduced price, so 20% then 10% off $100 is $72.00, a 28% total discount.
