Your day
EVERY DAY
Plans change. Your schedule should too.
DayShift puts your tasks on a visual timeline and rebuilds the rest of the day with Fix My Day when something runs late. No rebuilding the schedule by hand.
How time blocking works
Time blocking replaces the open-ended to-do list with a schedule. Each task gets a start time and a length, so you can see at a glance whether the day holds everything you want to do. If your tasks add up to more hours than you have, you find out in the morning, not at 5 p.m.
How to build a time-blocked schedule
Start with the fixed points: meetings, appointments, lunch. Pin them with a fixed start. Then add the rest of your tasks in priority order, each with an honest length. Put demanding work first, since the planner fills the day from the top. Add a buffer after each task, because things run over. Check the summary: if it shows overflow, cut or shorten a task now.
An hourly planner for when the day goes sideways
A paper hourly planner breaks the moment you fall behind: you erase, shuffle and redraw. Here, turn on "I'm running late", enter the time and tick what you finished. Unfinished tasks slide to start now, fixed meetings stay put, and anything that no longer fits is flagged. Print the new version if you want it on paper.
Frequently asked questions
What is time blocking?
Time blocking means giving every task its own block of time on your calendar instead of keeping an open to-do list. You decide when each task happens and how long it gets, so the day has a plan before it starts.
How do I time block my day?
List your tasks with a realistic length for each. Pin anything that has to happen at a set time, such as a meeting or lunch. The planner stacks the rest in order around those fixed blocks, shows what is left of your day and warns you when the plan runs past your end time.
How much buffer should I add between blocks?
Five to ten minutes is a good start. Tasks almost always run over, and a small gap after each block keeps one late task from pushing everything else. Use the buffer setting to add it automatically.
What if I fall behind?
Turn on "I'm running late", set the current time and tick off what you finished. The planner drops finished tasks and moves the rest to start now, keeping your fixed meetings where they are. Anything that no longer fits is flagged so you can cut or move it.
Can I print this as an hourly planner?
Yes. Use the print button to print the day as a clean schedule, or save it as a PDF from your browser's print dialog. You can also copy the schedule as text or download it as a calendar (.ics) file.
How do I add the schedule to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar?
Download the .ics file and open it. Each block becomes a calendar event on the date you picked, at the times shown.
Are my tasks saved?
Your tasks and settings stay in this browser on this device so they are here when you come back. Nothing is uploaded to a server. Clearing your browser data removes them.
