How we estimate gutter installation cost
Installed price per linear foot comes from InchCalculator's "Gutter Installation Cost" guide (2026 price guide, checked October 2026): vinyl $2–$5, aluminum $8–$18, steel $18–$27 and copper $30–$50 per foot. We use the aluminum range for seamless aluminum. The guide does not price sectional aluminum, gutter size, downspouts, guards or removal separately.
Our own assumptions, not published figures: sectional aluminum at about 75% of the aluminum price; 6 inch gutters 20% above 5 inch; labor 35% higher on two stories and 90% higher on three; downspouts $25–$50 (vinyl) up to $150–$300 (copper) each per story; gutter guards $3–$12 per foot; removal of old gutters $1–$2 per foot. The materials versus labor split uses an assumed material share of 45% to 60% depending on the material.
The typical figure is the midpoint of the low and high, not a statistical average. Prices vary by region, so a high-cost metro will usually land near the high end. Figures are estimates for planning, not quotes, and we re-check the data yearly.

Published 2026 installed prices run from about $2 to $5 per linear foot for vinyl to $30 to $50 for copper, with aluminum at $8 to $18. What is the cost per foot for gutters?
Installed gutter prices are quoted per linear foot of gutter run: about $2 to $5 for vinyl, $8 to $18 for aluminum, $18 to $27 for steel and $30 to $50 for copper. The calculator also shows your all-in cost per foot once downspouts, guards and removal are added.
How much does gutter replacement cost?
Replacing old gutters costs the same as new installation plus removal of the old run. We assume $1 to $2 per foot for removal and disposal; tick the removal box to include it. Rotted fascia boards that need repair are extra.
How much do seamless gutters cost?
Seamless gutters are formed on site from a roll of metal, so they leak less at joints but cost more than sectional pieces. The published aluminum range of $8 to $18 per foot is used for seamless aluminum here. Sectional aluminum is assumed to run about 25% cheaper.
How many feet of gutter do I need?
Measure along every roof edge that sheds water. For a simple rectangular house the whole perimeter is a good start: 2 times (length plus width). A 50 by 30 ft house needs about 160 ft. Use the house length and width option to calculate it.
How many downspouts do I need?
A common rule is one downspout for every 30 to 40 feet of gutter, plus one at each corner where runs meet. The calculator starts with one per 35 ft, rounded up, and you can enter your own number.
Are 5 inch or 6 inch gutters better?
Five inch gutters are the usual choice for most homes. Six inch gutters carry more water and suit large roofs, steep pitches and heavy rain areas. We assume they cost about 20% more per foot.
